Yoga for Scoliosis; Embracing the curve with Abby

Scoliosis is a condition defined as “a lateral (sideways) curvature of the spine.” Although recommended treatments and exercise programs for scoliosis vary, there are many common issues facing everyone with scoliosis. If you are a yoga practitioner with scoliosis, you have likely asked the questions “Will yoga help my scoliosis? Will this reduce my discomfort? Am I doing this right??” In this two-hour workshop, you will learn techniques for working with muscular imbalances due to scoliosis, including:

  • -Reviewing current research on scoliosis and exercise
  • -Learning how to identify compensation patterns
  • -Postures to strengthen, lengthen, and balance the spine
  • -Approaching your edge with mindfulness
  • -Finding ease in your yoga practice through self-kindness
  • – Therapy ball techniques to help release chronic tension

Abby Hatfield is a Certified Yoga Therapist and a 500-hour registered yoga instructor. Abby was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 12. With over 20 years of consistent practice, research, and trial-and-error, she has developed a unique approach to working with spinal imbalance.
