Class: Restorative

Restorative yoga is a pathway to replenishment of your inner resources. It is a nurturing, powerful practice especially suited to anyone experiencing chronic stress, pain or health concerns. By meeting your body where it is at, with nonjudgment and loving kindness, you can access the ability to relax and restore on a fundamental level. The asanas are designed to be adaptive and Natalie gives personalized attention to each student. Her comprehensive understanding of biomechanics ensures that you will be skillfully guided in which props and assists to employ. You will learn how to align your pelvis, correct your posture and strengthen your entire body. The smooth transitions from dynamic, floor-based movements to stillness ground the sense of spaciousness that this practice develops.

Based on teachings of BKS Iyengar, you will utilize props such as blocks, bolsters, blankets and straps. Through longer, assisted holds, the tendons, ligaments and muscles loosen their grip on the bones. This softening creates more space for the breath to relax the fascia, and engages the parasympathetic nervous system. By activating the relaxation response, not only does the mind-body experience more stillness, but the autonomic nervous system can begin to balance.  The slow, intentional movements and breathwork are suitable for all levels of students looking to heal their bodies and restore vitality.
