SUMMARY:Restorative\, Nidra\, Satya for Fatigue\, Anxiety and Depression with Natalie
DESCRIPTION:Why try Restorative Yoga?\n-You are giving a reset to your nervous system\n-Sleeping improves\n-Quiets and calms the mind\n-Aches and pains are gone or the are not the centerpiece of your life.\n-it is a great tool for chronic pain to ease the anticipation of pain and pain itsel\n– one of the greatest tools for depression\, anxiety and PTSD\n-counteracts the busyness of our lives\n-teaches us to do less\, react less\, receive more and find moments to do nothing so you can tap into your own inner vitality\n-guides you to daily short practices that can help you sleep better and feel refreshed in the morning\n\nWhat is SATYA?\nSensory Awareness Training for Yoga Attunement \nIn a totally unique way\, SATYA practice opens doorways into the interior\, providing new pathways of perception and feeling. It guides students away from “doing” movement and toward sensing\, receiving and “being” movement. All the movements are done on the floor in a flowing fashion\, without force. The SATYA movements cultivate inner listening and heighten proprioceptive awareness. Our aim is to counter “sensory-motor amnesia” and to gain awareness in places where there has been numbing or freezing. This awareness is the body’s innate intelligence. By increasing our capacity for sensory awareness\, we become more sentient\, wakeful beings in the world. \nThe practice ends with a deep guided relaxation called Yoga Nidra. \nYoga nidra is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping\, like the “going-to-sleep” stage. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed\, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. \nYoga nidra is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. In lucid dreaming\, one is only\, or mainly\, cognizant of the dream environment\, and has little or no awareness of one’s actual environment \nThe practice of yoga relaxation[clarification needed] has been found to reduce tension and anxiety. The autonomic symptoms of high anxiety such as headache\, giddiness\, chest pain\, palpitations\, sweating and abdominal pain respond well. It has been used to help soldiers from war cope with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). \nWhat can we do on a daily basis that can help us sleep better and feel refreshed in the morning?\nHow can we quiet the nervous system and promote a sense of peace and ease so we can fully rest. \nCome to this workshop and take charge of your rest with these simple and yet\, powerful practices. All levels welcome \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Rethinking the Shoulders with Doug
DESCRIPTION:‘The Head is the Foundation’ A vital part of understanding problems involving the shoulders and arms rests upon understanding the role of the head as the ‘foundation’ of shoulder health. Traditionally we think of the foundation of the body — in yoga and in our posture in life — in terms of the foundation set by the feet (and how the bones are ‘stacked’ above it). But because the shoulders ‘hang’ from the head in important ways\, it’s vital to look above them for their foundation. Neck health and the impact of postural patterns of the head and neck on the rest of the body will be explored in the context of asana practice and what it has to teach us\, in keeping with the maxim “As above\, so below.” The guiding principle will be the yogic insights behind the ‘bandhas’ — Jalandhara bandha in particular. Special attention will be given to problems arising from neck tension as well as misalignment in asana practice\, as well as neck-strengthening and neck-aligning strategies for practice. The Arm ‘Sutras’ This will lead us into working with the myofascial ‘Sutras’ of the arms — an exploration of the myofascial lines or ‘sutras’ that govern the actions of the arms — the lines of larger muscles that govern the movement of the shoulder blades and give the arms their power\, as well as the deeper lines of muscles that govern rotations and are crucial for the health of the rotator cuffs\, elbows and wrists. A big challenge in practice and in life comes from the shoulders\, which can be limited in movement as well as being easily injured. We will take a deep and natural approach to ‘shoulder opening\,’ thinking of the action of the rotations of the arms as beginning from the spirals of the hands and wrists. We’ll incorporate wrist health and elbow awareness into the poses that challenge our shoulders (and neck!). The session will include helpful information about the shoulder — its structure and how it works in various arm positions\, and how variations in the usual shoulder actions can be helpful for mobilizing the shoulders\, with some remedial stretches as well!\nEach Day will include some Pranayama and Exploration of the Role of Deep Relaxation/Yoga Nidra in Yoga This will include a consideration of the role of Yoga Nidra in any yogi’s practice in light of contemporary research on sleep. Many of the deeper processes of meditative yoga having to do with reducing the power of ‘samskaras\,’ undoing or rewriting emotional patterns often described in terms of ‘working on the chakras’ and so on will be more practically comprehensible when we consider how these functions are handled in sleep. Yoga Nidra as a practice of hatha yoga augments and deepens this natural process. We’ll consider variations on the approach to Yoga Nidra\, and will practice a fundamental form that allows us to go even deeper than seated meditation.\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Prana Blocks and Fascial Distortions with Doug
DESCRIPTION:Building on the foundation of the first day\, we’ll explore the role of the fascia in pain problems more deeply in terms of typical ‘fascial distortions’ that arise in daily life as well as being typical of many types of ‘yoga injuries.’ Doug will introduce the Fascial Distortion Model\, presented in yoga- and user-friendly terms\, relate it to traditional approaches from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Marma tradition. And he will relate these ideas in particular to the upper body as he transitions to considering the arms and shoulders. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Understanding Sacroiliac\, Pelvic and Low Back Pain with Doug
DESCRIPTION:This session will go more deeply into the details of understanding Sacroiliac\, Pelvic and Low Back Pain\, in terms of sacral stability and the rhythms of its movement in the sacroiliac joint. This will include an understanding of patterns developed during pregnancy and postpartum — and will include plenty for the guys to contemplate in their own case too! — as well as in postural and movement patterns. The session will include lecture with very practical and illustrated information about pelvic and low back pain\, as well as applications in practice. We’ll be doing asana\, but this won’t be a sustained asana ‘workout.’ \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Sacral Rhythm and Low Back Health with Doug
DESCRIPTION:At the center of all movement lies the sacrum\, the keystone of the pelvis\, which regulates the curve of the spine as well as the ‘openness’ and flexibility of the hips. Much of yoga has focused on the suggested actions of the tailbone — even in describing ‘Mula Bandha’ — but has given little attention to the natural actions of the sacrum. This leaves the ‘tail’ wagging the ‘dog.’ In this session we’ll focus on some simple actions to be incorporated into asana practice that will strengthen the muscles supporting the actions of the sacrum\, increasing the stability of the sacroiliac joint as well as the health of the low back and flexibility of the hips. Attention will be given to the causes of sacroiliac and low back pain in a way that will be useful to teachers and enlightening to students! This will be a practice-oriented asana session\, introducing fundamental and simple actions for sacral health that will be explored through the weekend. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Our Yoga Energy Management System: The Bandhas with Vanessa Scott
DESCRIPTION:Register here \nA street location \nSunday May 27\, 1:30-4 p.m.\n$45 before May 18\, $55 thereafter \nThe bandhas are a system of energy “locks”\, like the locks of a river or canal\, that we can apply to direct the flow of energy and awareness in Asana and Pranayama. Working with the bandhas brings more inner support to our central nervous system and subtle energy center (in yoga\, the Sushumna ); establishes steadiness\, strength and endurance in our asana practice; and calm\, awake presence in the mind. \nIn our workshop we will explore the six primary bandhas and their application in asana flow and held poses\, and the breath. We will work in a gentle and accessible way so that we can invite these powerful yoga friends into our daily life and practice. Open to all levels with some regular practice experience.

SUMMARY:Unveiling the Mysterious Psoas
DESCRIPTION:An anatomy of yoga workshop with Sheryl Grunde.\nSaturday\, April 21st from 1:30 to 4:30 at Ashland Yoga Center \nIn this three hour workshop with Sheryl Grunde you will learn about the functional anatomy of the psoas\, our primary hip flexor. Tightness there is common and can be a main contributor to lower back pain. You will get acquainted with your own psoas muscles through touch and movement\, and you will learn how best to lengthen and release tension using subtle awareness\, massage techniques and simple stretches.\n$45 early bird\n$50 after that \nWhat is the psoas and how does it contribute to back pain?\nThe psoas is the primary hip flexor\, moving the thighbones toward the trunk. People who sit for prolonged periods of time can develop a tight psoas because their hip is constantly in a state of flexion. A tight psoas pulls the lower vertebral column forward\, creating an increased lower back arch. This puts extra pressure on the inter-vertebral disks and can lead to many problems. \nHow can Yoga help? \nChanging the way we stand\, sit\, and move can encourage the psoas to lengthen\, release\, and work more efficiently. Stretching the psoas properly and strengthening opposing muscles can lead to a more relaxed\, healthier posture. \nLink to the registration:\nhttp://bit.ly/2piJvmf

SUMMARY:Restorative\, Satya\, Yoga Nidra with Natalie - A Benefit for Jessica
DESCRIPTION:This event is a fundraiser for Jessica.\n\nThe event will be held at the A Street Studio.\n\nSign up for this event here.\n\nCan’t make the event but still want to help? Go here for the full story\, pass the word around on social media or donate to the cause directly.\n\nThe Story:\n\nHello\, beautiful people. My name is Jess and I find myself in urgent need after several nights in the hospital revealed a softball-sized mass between my lungs and extremely enlarged lymph nodes throughout my body indicating advanced stage lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes). After extreme difficulties breathing\, I admitted myself to the emergency room. Though I was able to remove over two liters of fluid surrounding my lungs\, the doctors state that I may need to have the procedure again because the cause of the build-up of fluid is from the mass in my chest. The doctors stated that my condition is at an advanced state and even suggested hospice care. One doctor told me that if I did nothing\, I would likely die in 6 months. \nSo here is where I desperately need your help. I would like to follow Dr. Robert Morse’s protocol for healing which has a 90 percent success rate\, and he has tons of interviews and testimonials to prove his success. He has healed a woman with lymphoma in 8 weeks with his protocol and helped many stage 4 cancer patients heal in just 4 months or so. I do not wish to go the route of chemo and radiation for many reasons. Not only is it far from perfect\, with a success rate that ranges wildly\, but it is a living hell. I have seen my family members  and friends suffer through that route. What’s more\, I believe in the power of the body and the power of our Mother Gaia’s plants and herbs. After my recent hospital visit\, I feel even more inspired to heal in a natural way\, because it is so neglected and looked down upon in the Western medicine tradition. I truly believe this is my path – to be an example for others struggling in similar situations. With your help\, we can shift the paradigm and show the world the power of our natural\, divine bodies! \nUnfortunately\, I do not have any family to fall back on. I am practically alone\, living in a city where I know almost no one. I am unable to work at this time because my body and my heart are working extremely hard to keep me alive. I need financial support for maintaining: \n-a place to live \n-the herbs and juices required for Dr. Morse’s protocol \n-healing therapies \n-consultations and follow-ups with Dr. Morse \n-caregiving \n-other living expenses (car\, gas\, phone\, bills) \nMy goal amount has been precisely calculated to take care of all my expenses for three months\, at which point I know I will be able to provide for myself. Like I said\, I am unable to work\, do not have any savings\, and do not have any family to fall back on\, so I do not know where else to turn. This is urgent. Please help me. If 450 people give just $20 I will have reached most of my goal! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for reading and for your support. And please share with everyone you can!

And there are more realms to explore! Hargopal wandered into Kundalini Yoga in the ‘70s and found a home in the teachings of Yogi Bhajan. Already grateful to have found her teacher\, Sat Nam Rasayan® taught by Guru Dev Singh came knocking at the door\, opening up vistas of healing and consciousness beyond her wildest dreams. Hargopal is also a facilitator of family and organizational constellations\, healing inter-generational issues. \n \n\nTo Register\, contact:  Lindsey.Roby@gmail.com (preferred) or call 804-363-3996 \nFor more info visit:   www.ashlandkundaliniyoga.com
